City Tours Cusco

Archaeological center of Pukapukara

Puka Pukara means " red fortress " because the limestone with which it is built have acquired the reddish coloration , very rich in iron. It is argued that had the function of protecting Tambomach'ay , an important palace in Inkan . But in turn , for its architectural layout and the existence of sources , aqueducts and multiple enclosures , it was a " Tambo" that is, a collective hostel offering inn and food for travelers , as well as the delegation that was to accompany the Inka in his retirement in Tambomach'ay .

Archaeological center of Tambomachay

Tambomachay , it is located about 8 kms . north of Cusco and close to the ruins of Puka Pukara , is an archaeological site that was intended for worship of water and the head of the Inca Empire could rest.
